Showing my Fred head

Fred Eaglesmith will be playing the Shelter Valley Folk Festival (just east of Grafton) this Friday evening.

I tweeted the following Monday night:

I hope to be hearing this southern Ont. original play live later this week: Fred Eaglesmith, ‘I Like Trains’ – http://tinysong.com/egwx

Fred Eaglesmith, ’49 Tons’ – http://tinysong.com/iu4q

Fred Eaglesmith, ‘Alcohol & Pills’ – http://tinysong.com/iu4v

Fred Eaglesmith, ‘White Trash’ – http://tinysong.com/e3zy

A quote I remember from Eaglesmith — who calls Port Dover home between his insane touring schedule — is this, uttered on-stage at the Mariposa Folk Festival in (if I remember correctly) 2004:

“On those county roads in southern Ontario, you can drive your muscle car as fast as you want to for as far as you want to.”

Drive the roads of Norfolk County some day. You’ll see what he means.

If you like country mixed with punk ‘tude, check out Fred. His show at the Horseshoe back in 2002 remains a cherished Toronto memory.

Afterthought

Actually, I’ve got good memories of every live Fred performance I’ve caught.

As an aside, I’ve got a Fred “I shot your dog” t-shirt. Wore it to a local watering hole recently, and the bartender pulled out a “I ‘heart’ Fred’ key ring to show her Fredhead cred.

He’s got a loyal fan base!

    Hi Colin:

You’re quite welcome. Glad you enjoyed the tunes. If you don’t have any of his CDs, you can listen to more on Grooveshark.

    Cheers
