The restorative power of music
Had a shitty commute both to and from work today (see this, this, this and this for deets).
Stopped for a beer on the way home. Was inspired to tweet this:
Turns out a local pastry shop worker by day likes spinning rare disco gold by night. Cool!
Among the rarities I’d like to hear again (and, through the miracle of YouTube, will be able to) are:
- Lipstique, Venus (a smokin’ discofied version of the original Shocking Blue tune)
- the Duncan Sisters, Boys will be Boys
- Star City, I’m a Man (a discofied version of the original Spencer Davis Group tune)
I didn’t tweet those, but I did tweet these:
- The Brand New Heavies, Boogie - http://tinysong.com/fWPk
- Prince, Superfunkycalifragisexy - http://tinysong.com/hk7E
- Jamiroquai, Space Cowboy – http://tinysong.com/eb58
And presto! My mood improved!
Afterwards
Had to tweet one last tune:
One last disco-y tune for the night: Heatwave, “Boogie Nights” - http://tinysong.com/q1UK
And then found this on YouTube, which is also a nice tune to end on Creme de Coco – Disco Strut.
Seems to me that if you want to hunt for the cooler stuff, YouTube is where you want to be looking.
