What was Canada’s best journalism in 2011?
We’ve had a newsmaker of the year identified. We’ve had at least two takes on the top news stories of the year.
Now what was the best journalism in Canada for 2011?
How would I define ‘journalism’ in this context? It would be:
- reportage or commentary that made you understand a news event/newsmaker/issue better
- reportage or commentary that shines a light on bad behaviour by individuals or institutions that affects the public interest
- intelligently challenging conventional wisdom and special-interest spin while being intellectually honest
Ideally, an anthology of this work would feature what you needed to be an informed and engaged Canadian citizen in 2011.
The work may have been published by a national news organization or an alternative outlet. Pageviews, ratings, or other metrics aren’t important in this excercise. Some journalism displays its power by profoundly influencing a small group.
Any suggestions on tweaks to the criteria?
Any suggestions as to works that should be considered for such an anthology?
Honestly, I think my blog, http://classicquarters.blogspot.com [sp] was Canada’s best journalism in 2011.
